Over the weekend we saw many different events going on at once. One of them was the KCQ country music festival in Saginaw Michigan. It had many great acts and this year it out did itself.
People started to line up for the day’s event at 6am in the morning to get a great seat for the event. Let’s not forget all the boaters that packed the Saginaw river to listen as well. The attendance this year was over 110,00 people which filled the small Ojibway island.
Not only did they have great acts, but they also had a classic car and bike show that saw many different types of vehicles from the Saginaw police battalion to old school roadsters.
Vendors lined each side of the island where you could buy everything from Great Texas BBQ to cowboy hats, and temporary tattoos. For the kids you saw a big blow up bounce area that featured a pirate ride and they even had Bob Evans’ doing up something special for the kids. Each one could make and decorate their own cookie.
The day saw the show starting off with Maggie Rose who went on stage at noon and rock the joint till 1:30. In between each act our local Steel Wheelz Band played for the crowed to keep them happy while they changed out main acts. After Maggie Rose you saw Easton Corbin, who got all the young girls up and dancing with his wild and crazy country songs. Following him, you saw the Main act of Gary Allan, who loved the crowed so much that he sang a little bit past his second set. A couple of things about his act was he had a band member dressed in a skirt (lol) and one who played the slide guitar with a Jack Daniels bottle.
So overall the experience was great for everyone. It offered many different things to do through the day. The only draw back to the event if i had to pick anything was there shuttle service, for those new to the area or not knowing the area, it was hard to remember what bus to take back to where you parked. Luckily they were so happy to help people out that this reporter had to use the little girls room and had to miss the bus that took us back to our car. So one of the main people form KCQ got on another bus and showed the driver where to drop us off.
So it was a day full of fun in the sun. I would like to throw out a special thanks to the the Saginaw sheriff dept. and all the paramedics on hand to help keep things safe. They had a busy day transporting people to the hospitable due to accidents and overheating.
See you all next year.
