The Country stars were aligned for the first ever Bay City Country Music Festival that ran from June 22-23 2018 in Bay City Michigan. Wenonah Park would play host for the first ever annual country music festival two day event. It would place hose to many local band that have plays show all over Michigan. There were two top Nashville acts that would headline this year event. Thompson Square on Friday June 22 and then Frankie Ballard on June 23. All this was sponsor by La Fontaine of Birch Run Michigan
The event was the brainchild of Ken Shelton Promotions. He came up with the idea when see other huge event in Michigan that people had to drive hours away and spend tons of money on. He when ask by other new interview why he thought this would be great for Mid-Michigan. He say Bay city was the perfect spot cause of the friendly people that show their support to all the local band that played at the park. He said I wanted to do a event that could not only bring something to our small part of the world but also give you the feeling as if you was at a big event like those that you have to drive our away.
So Ken Shelton Promotion would bring together a few big name local band that have hit the big stage along with with two top acts like Thompson Square and Frankie Ballard. Who both would very happy to play the small low cost event in Bay City Michigan.
After making the announcement of the event on his Facebook page, it was apparent that people was ready to see this come to Mid-Michigan. People already started asking his company to hold ticket for them. But as soon as they went on sale both night VIP ticket was selling out fast. With Frankie Ballard selling out with in the first few day and then Thompsquare a few days later. So people had to turn there site to general admission ticket, that would got both on sale at the State Theater in Bay City as well as at the gate the day of.
As the days roll on you could see that people what all a buzzed for the event as the news feed for the event was rolling with question on who were the other band that will be playing as well.
So people began to prep for the big day even though it look like mother nature might show everyone some love with good weather. How ever that wasn’t the case, even though on friday she would give us a small but over cast friday. She would leave everyone know last even that she was watching at the main act took to the stage with small sprinkle of shower would come down but it wasn’t enough to drown out the show. On Saturday she gave everyone nice sunny sky’s’ most of the day but later on a few sprinkler just like someone was just water their lawns would come down in order for the crowd to pop up there umbrellas. But even that would stop the fans from coming out.
Fans began to line up for staring about 3:00 pm on both day so they could get good seats for the shows. They all came ready with their boots, hats and other gear to party all night long.
As the gates open up at 5pm on both day at 5:30 it saw little town hopeful Jessica Goik (Bay City Michigan) sing the National Anthem to the waiting crowds on both nights. Jessica has been singing the National Anthem all across Michigan at Sporting Event, Concerts and more.
Following her up on friday would be the first band of the night. It was Mandi Layne & Lost Highway band who would get the joint jumping to a wide array of music. She sang a few of her original works as well some of the country favorite of other artist.
Next to take to the stage was Kari Holmes. Kair would play her top hit as well as crowd favorite that would keep the energy pump up. She even at one point in between song to point out where her booth was so everyone could come up and get her autograph by making fun of her own banner saying that it kind of look like something you see for someone selling real estate. This would get everyone laughing an even more excited to hear her music. Todd Michael band who was found in Saginaw michigan. Following them was Kin Faux who would draw their inspiration of music from old country like Johnny Cash and other great giants. The would sing with a mission of trying to put western back into country music.
As the local band would draw to a end for Friday night it was Thompson Square turn. They came out like a bang, getting the crowd pump up with there music. They would play their hit song “Make it Rain” which you could hear them say as the solo instrumental part of the song was playing that they shouldn’t have start with it cause as they did mother nature say OK and lest it sprinkle as they played there song. But that would keep the crowd from getting up dancing and singing along to their favorite it that Thompson Square would play.
Saturday June 23 would bring a whole new array of musical talent to the Wenonah bands stage. Jessica Goik would once again start off the day performance with the National Anthem. Following her would be a old band who play the stage for many year in bay city. How ever according to the lead singer this would be there last appearance in bay city. It would be Randy Badour & The Matt Ryan Band playing their favorite hits from there CD. After them would come Tweed & Dixie would get the joint jumping by playing there version of Rock-n-Roll country Music. They would be playing the stage after opening up the earlier weekend for the rock-n-roll band Quiet Riot who play at Ojibway Island in Saginaw Michigan.
Rocking to the country music of Tweed & Dixie, they would be followed up by local favorite Steve Armstrong & 25-cent beer band. On deck after Steve Armstrong would a Bay City local boy who made it big in Nashville. He grew up and graduated from Garber High School and it was J. (Joey) Hartley. J Hartley would have a few fans in the audience sporting singing to show how much they love him.
Frankie Ballard would be that last act to perform for the crowd for this year Bay City Country Music Festival. Frankie Ballard would come out sporting a 50’s style outfit that you would see the singer Frankie Avalon wear. He sang song from all of his CD and top number one hits. Even at one point going back in time by singing Tennessee Ernie Ford “16 tons” song. This would get the crowd singing along to it as well.
He would keep the joint jumping all night long. But beside the music there what as few other thing you could. For example if you wanted to you could due a bit of shopping buy all the band item that each one offer to the fans on both days along with getting that item singed. There was also two other vendor on hand one selling jewelry for the ladies to pick up or if you want to you could go walk over to the country store and buy that cowboy hat or belt with your hand stamp on it. There also was a variety of food vendors on hand. So if you was hungry you could buy everything taco, BBQ, pizza, hamburger and fries to Kettle corn and regular popcorn.
But if you was thirsty for the adult beverage there was the beer tent. That offered everything from cold beer to a few mix drink or shot of alcohol if you wish. There was a lot for yea to do whether it be the bands or the food and if you miss out you have to wait another year to come out to the event.
